ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – There’s concern that Jamestown mall might become history before developers have a chance to bring it back to life. St. Louis county councilwoman Rochelle Gray says she’s heard that the mall’s structures are slated to be torn down.
“We do not want to see a big empty lot or space there for a number of years,” she says.
St. Louis Economic Development Partnership CEO Sheila Sweeney says whether to tear-down or not will be up to re-developers.
“I think that if a developer can find value in any of it, they will propose that,” she says.
That said, Sweeney says the former Jamestown mall buildings are not in the most salvageable condition. She says the structures have hazardous materials and the paved parking lot is experiencing sinkholes. The RFP for redevelopment should be released by the end of the year.
