ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Rumors are flying that Amazon may get into the prescription drug business, which could be bad news for the dominant player in that market, a company that happens to be based in the St. Louis area. Express Scripts CEO Tim Wentworth answered questions on CNBC about the company known for disruption getting into his company’s field.

“Amazon, if they were to look at coming in as a retailer, or coming in and taking care of cash patients, we think could actually make an interesting partner for us,” he says.

Has he talked with Amazon about a partnership or some sort of a merger of acquisition?

“I can’t comment on how interested they would be in coming in on a market that’s so competitive already,” he says.

Wentworth says Express Scripts is focused on vertical growth and they’ve already bought a firm that takes them beyond prescriptions into managing total patient benefits.
