ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOX) – St. Peters police say a late Saturday morning carjacking at Mid Rivers Mall may be connected to a similar type of vehicle theft attempt a short time later at Ameristar Casino in St. Charles.

Officer Melissa Doss says a man was taken into custody Saturday afternoon in north St. Louis County, and a gun was confiscated, “We have detectives interviewing that subject to determine if he is the suspect in our case or the accomplice.”

The 59-year-old man hurt in the carjacking suffered facial injuries, but has since been treated and released from a hospital.

Doss says incidents like this one can serve as a reminder for shoppers, “Always be aware of the surroundings. Don’t let people distract you. Be aware if someone’s walking near you or tries to approach you. And if you feel uncomfortable at all, always go back into the store and ask for an escort to your car.”
