ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Fire struck a north St. Louis junkyard late Monday afternoon, and high winds made battling it that much harder.
Here’s St. Louis fire captain Garon Mosby on how the fire at Riverside Salvage might have started.
“In the drainage of a few vehicles, an ignition source was found. One of the workers might have been using a power tool, in the usage a spark ignited the fumes, a small fire gradually became bigger with the wind conditions” he says.
The fire department decided to attack the blaze with several elevated hoses to contain the spread of the flames. A total of 30 firefighters worked the scene and the flames were brought under control in a couple of hours.
No injuries were reported.
