ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – If you find yourself at the Farmington Missouri Wal-Mart this Friday, you may notice a bunch of children passing through in the company of police officers.

Those kids aren’t in trouble, far from it. They’re taking part in this year’s “Shop With a Cop” program, underwritten by the St. Louis-based Electrical Connection.

Farmington police officer Jeff Kostedt will be among the participants.

“They’ll have $100 to shop, and that $100 is for whatever the kids want, if they want to buy Hotwheels with it, Barbie dolls, whatever the kids want. It’s for the kids for their presents,” he says.

Kostedt was on the other end of the “Shop With A Cop” program growing up- it’s what inspired him to pursue a badge.

The Farmington program is one of the nation’s largest helping hundreds of kids each year.
