ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) – Bond is set at $150,000 for a Bellefontaine Neighbors man accused of shooting two police officers Thursday, then engaging in a seven-hour standoff.

Court documents say 37-year-old Jason Cook is charged with two counts each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Officers attempted to take Cook into custody early Thursday morning, when police say he fired shots at the officers.

The two officers were wearing protective vests and were not injured. They both received at least one shot to the chest area.

Police say about 11:12 a.m. Thursday, officers saw the suspect open the back door of the home he had barricaded himself in since 7:15 a.m., and fire a weapon. An officer returned fire, shooting one round at the suspect.

Then about 2:45 p.m., the Tactical Operations Unit made entry into the residence. The suspect, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper body, was taken into custody.

Two handguns were recovered from the home.

Cook remains hospitalized. The officers were treated and released.
