ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Missouri now has widespread influenza activity, up from regional the week before.
“In Missouri, we’re getting pockets of infection, influenza activity in major urban areas,” says SLU Care infectious disease specialist Dr. Nirav Patel.
771 new cases last week in Missouri, for a total of more than 3,500 for the season to date.
St. Louis County had its biggest increase so far, jumping from 100 to 186 new cases over the past week, for a total of 473.
St. Charles County has seen a jump from 29 to 80 new cases this past week, while St. Louis city now says it has had 33 confirmed cases for the season.
“Most of the time, the flu starts after the new year,” Patel says. “This year, we’ve had an early kick-off, but that hopefully means that it ends sooner coming next year.”
