ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The Ladue school district is defending its plan to use some money from a voter-approved bond issue to add new grandstands and field lights to the athletic field at Horton Watkins high school. District spokeswoman Susan Downing says the lights won’t ruin the neighborhood.
“The way lights are built these days they’re not such that they light up an entire neighborhood and blocks and blocks. They’re very targeted, they’re LED lighting and they can light the field very much like a postage stamp with very little light spillage,” she says.
Downing says the total cost of the athletic field improvements would be $3 to $4 million. That, she says, would come from a portion of the $85 million Proposition-R bond issue approved by voters, plus some private donations and money from the sale of a property.
