UPDATED 3:28 p.m.

CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOX) – Two men were able to walk away from a helicopter crash Monday with only bumps, bruises and scrapes.

St. Louis Downtown Airport Fire Chief Mike Mavrogeorge says they were very lucky, because the helicopter wound up on its top, with only the cockpit left intact.

Mavrogeorge says the helicopter was not very high when it crashed, and those on board did not contact the tower as the crash happened.

The helicopter was being operated by Midwest Helicopter Training Academy, which is owned by Fostaire, which isn’t commenting.
