Top Spots for 4th of July Fireworks

Of the wide variety of holiday traditions we celebrate, perhaps none provides a better spectacle than the annual 4th of July fireworks. With so many cities and communities in the St. Louis area, there is no shortage of opportunities to see some fireworks. Here are some of the best displays around. -Ben DeMeyer

Fair St. Louis provides the largest and most popular fireworks event in the region, taking over the Gateway Arch Grounds for three days of live music, childrens activities and entertainment, and three full nights of fireworks. This years headlining musical acts are the Steve Miller Band (July 2), Maroon 5 (July 3), and Montgomery Gentry (July 4). The Steve Miller Band will take the stage at 7 p.m. while Maroon 5 and Montgomery Gentry will each start their shows at 8. The fireworks will follow the live musical performances at 9:15 each night.

Webster Groves

Webster Groves will be celebrating their annual Community Days event in honor of the 4th of July. This 4-day long event will culminate on July 3 and 4, with a “fireworks preview” on the night of July 3, and a “fireworks spectacular” on the night of the 4th. Before the fireworks get going, you can enjoy the many free activities and events in Memorial Park, as well as the Webster Groves Lions Club’s annual carnival and barbecue charity fundraiser.

The St. Charles Riverfest is an exciting 4th of July celebration held each year on the banks of the Missouri River. The festival includes four days of carnival rides, games, and food from July 1 through 4, as well as a parade and fireworks display on the 4th of July. Riverfest also casts a light on St. Charles historic importance in the Westward settlement of the United States.

Celebrate Independence Day down on the riverfront in Alton. The Glendale Riders will be entertaining the crowds with live music from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. After the fireworks, the celebration will continue with music until 11:30 p.m. Enjoy great food, activities for the kids and fireworks over the Mississippi. All proceeds from this event will benefit Alton High School.

O’Fallon Heritage and Freedom Fest

Join the fun of O’Fallon’s largest festival of the year and annual celebration of our nation’s birthday, the Heritage & Freedom Fest. The festival at Ozzie Smith Sports Complex features national entertainment, regional bands, a carnival midway, activities for children, crafters, lots of great food and two spectacular nights of fireworks.

The Chesterfield 4th of July celebration is presented by the City of Chesterfield and sponsored in part by the Chesterfield Mall. The main viewing area will be on the parking lot at Chesterfield Mall. Children’s entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m., featuring clowns, a stilt walker, and inflatables for kids of all ages. There will be a free concert from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. and then fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

This year’s Ferguson 4th of July festival theme is “Christmas in July”. The day begins at 10 AM with a parade starting at Paul and South Florissant Road and proceeds to the festival grounds at January-Wabash Memorial Park. Prizes will be awarded to the best parade entries. A variety of food, beverage, and game booths await the crowd. An outstanding array of continuous entertainment is planned throughout the afternoon. A spectacular fireworks display in January-Wabash Memorial Park is planned for 9:15 p.m.

The Fair St. Louis fireworks provide quite a sight, and one of the best places to watch them is from across the river in Malcolm Martin W. Memorial Park. The park offers unmatched views of the downtown skyline and will feature an array of free, family-friendly activities leading up to the fireworks on July 2, 3 and 4. The venue is also a hotspot for watching the daily Fair Saint Louis Air Shows.
