Haunted house owners sued over teen's death

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (AP) — The father of a 15-year-old girl is suing the owners of a St. Louis haunted house, alleging that artificial fog and scents in the attraction led to the asthmatic girl’s death.

The wrongful death suit was filed this week by Durand Tyler against Halloween Productions Inc., operator of The Darkness haunted house.

Brittney Holmes of Belleville, Ill., visited The Darkness on Halloween 2009 and died last month after spending more than a year in a vegetative state. She had suffered from asthma since age 4.

Her mother has also filed suit. Tyler had been unaware of that suit and his attorney says the cases may be consolidated.

The president of Halloween Productions declined comment.
