11 indicted in cigarette black market scheme
ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX)-An Overland cigarette wholesaler already indicted for smuggling millions of cigarettes from Missouri to Illinois, faces new charges along with ten of his alleged co-conspirators.
Now charged along with Ghalib Shahjamaluddin are another man from Overland, one from Florissant, one from Columbia, Illinois and seven from the Chicago area.
Prosecutors say Shahjamaluddin organized the cigarette trafficking enterprise which supplied the cigarettes and the other ten suspects received and purchased the cigarettes.
The five new counts, including one of distributing ten thousand cigarettes in a single transaction, supersede the four counts Shahjamaluddin was indicted on in October.
The other suspects are charged with one count each. They are :

Reselling Missouri-bought cigarettes in Illinois can be very profitable, Missouri’s cigarette tax is a nation-low 17 cents a pack, Illinois’ is 98 cents.
