Hancock & Kelley weigh in on Ariz. shootings

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – U.S. House Speaker John Boehner says the shooting of an Arizona Congresswoman must not prevent lawmakers from doing their work, even though normal House business is being postponed this week because of it.

Democratic strategist and KMOX talk show host Michael Kelley says it’s the right move, “It’ll give them an opportunity to analyze the security and also to take a moment to reflect on what’s happened here in our country.”

Republican strategist and KMOX talk show host John Hancock also approves of Boehner’s action, “It may keep down some of the more strident rhetoric on both sides of the aisle, and allow Congress to truly focus on the best interests of the American people.”

Kelley & Hancock were guests on KMOX’s Total Information AM Sunday.

“Politics is a substitution for violence. And unfortunately sometimes crazy people do ridiculous things to make a point,” Kelley said.

“I just don’t know how you prevent a random nut-case like this (referring to the Arizona shooting) from doing a horrific act, ” Hancock said.
