SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri contractor says he is cooperating with federal investigators looking into whether illegal immigrants have been working at a Missouri National Guard project in Springfield.
Greg Hoberock is the chief executive officer of hth Cos. Inc. of Union, which is insulating pipes at the National Guard aviation project. He told the Springfield News-Leader that he used the federal government’s E-Verify database to determine whether his employees were authorized to work in the country.
But he says federal immigration officials have asked to see the original federal employment verification documents for about 30 of his workers on the project.
State labor officials also have referred the allegations of illegal workers to the Missouri attorney general’s office.
