Missourians Thrilled by ‘Winter’s Bone’ Success
FORSYTH, Mo. (AP) — The film “Winter’s Bone” was already big news in the Ozarks, where it was filmed, using several area musicians and actors.
Now that it’s nominated for four Academy Awards, it’s generating even more buzz in southern Missouri.
“Winter’s Bone” was filmed mostly around Forsyth. It’s based on a book by West Plains author Daniel Woodrell. The movie was nominated Tuesday for Best Picture, two acting awards and for writing.
Lauren Sweetster, a Missouri State graduate who played the lead actress’ best friend, told The Springfield News-Leader that the Oscar nomination was a dream come true.
The film focuses on Ree Dolly, a teenage girl trying to survive in the Ozarks and save her family while looking for her meth-making father.
