MetroLink Passengers Stranded, Icy Power Line

Michael Calhoun

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Mother Nature iced three MetroLink trains to a grinding halt during the evening commute.

In one case, it was almost two hours before passengers were released from the train, after it ran out of juice on an overpass in Brentwood.

The overhead lines which power the trains became covered with ice, and the trains’ ice cutters just weren’t able to break through.

“It’s unfortunate. It’s actually very rare,” Metro CEO John Nations apologized. “When we get ice that was accumulating as fast as it was tonight, we lost power before we could get to the end of that run.”

Passengers couldn’t get off while the train was stuck on the bridge.

Nations called Monday a “challenging day” but said, even with more ice, Tuesday should be better.
