ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A new report by the Commonwealth Fund finds that federal and state action on behalf of children has helped expand health coverage for them, despite the recession.

Missouri and Illinois are both in the middle of the pack. Overall, Missouri ranks 21st for its child health system performance, Illinois 28th. When it comes to the percentage of children 18 and under who are insured, Illinois ranks 23rd — with 91.9%. Missouri ranks 25th — with 91.5 %. Both Missouri and Illinois are slightly higher than the national median rate of  91.4 %.

On children receiving all recommended doses of six key vaccines, a big difference there. Illinois had a 73,5% compliance rate, good enough to rank 30th in the nation. Missouri’s compliance rate was 64.5%, making it 49th out of the 50 states.
