President Reagan’s 100th

TAMPICO, Ill. (AP) — Festivities for the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth are under way.

A special church service is scheduled at First Christian Church in Dixon.

Also, a birthday party complete with cake, is planned at the Tampico Historical Society. The 40th president was born in the central Illinois community on Feb. 6, 1911.

Several commemorations have been held in Illinois. Reagan grew up in Dixon and Monmouth and attended college in Eureka. He also spent a short time in Chicago.

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich was among the political notables attending a Friday celebration.

He visited Reagan’s birth place and then went to Sterling Township High School, where hundreds turned out to watch a film that he and his wife made about Reagan’s life.
