Chief Justice Advocates more Alternative Sentencing

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (KMOX) – Locking up non-violent offenders is costing Missouri “an arm and a leg” according to Chief Justice William Ray Price.

“Our real goal for non violent offenders is to teach them their lesson so they can become productive law abiding members of our society.”

He repeated his call for new crime-fighting strategies that use alternative sentencing programs.

Price told a joint legislative session alternative sentencing programs such as drug and drunken driving courts can be cheaper and more effective at reducing recidivism.
