ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The state Democratic party has thrown its support to St. Louis city hall on the question of local control of the city police department.
Brian Wahby with the St. Louis delegation in Jefferson City says the vote for local control came from both rural and urban sections of Missouri. St. Louis city hall supports local control but the St. Louis police union opposes it.
Currently the department is under state control and has been since the Civil War. The governor appoints a majority of the commissioners.
