Hazmat Responds to Chemical Plant

CASEYVILLE, IL. (KMOX) – A hazmat team responded to a plant in Caseyville Illinois after smoke was seen coming from the Illini Environmental Services, a plant makes chemicals used in landfills.
KMOX’s Michael Calhoun on the scene reports the call for help went out around 5:30 P.M. when someone saw smoke coming from the building in the 8000 block of California.
A fire inside the building was brought under control and hazmat teams entered the building to make sure the chemicals inside the plant posed no danger.
No homes in the area were evacuated but officials monitored the air around several homes at route 157 and California.
