Caregiver Charged with Murdering Quadriplegic

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) – Investigators say the man who murdered a bedridden quadriplegic and then set his south St. Louis County duplex on fire Wednesday morning, was the victim’s caregiver.

According to the probable cause statement, 38-year-old Tyrone Benedict claimed he tried to rescue 40-year-old Mark Woods from his burning duplex. Investigators say Benedict had actually stabbed Woods and set the fire with gasoline he brought with him from his Maryland Heights home.

Benedict, who police say also claimed that Woods had sexually abused him, is charged with murder and arson.
