ST. CHARLES, Mo (KMOX)- A man police say burglarized several homes over the past six months to feed a $400 a day heroin addiction, is in jail today.
St. Charles Police Detective Sgt. Todd Wilson says 27- year-old Kevin Mason was arrested after a victim saw him riding away from her home on an electric scooter, “He had a very descrip’ bag that she recognized as hers, hanging over the handlebars.”
Wilson says detectives got a tip and found Mason in a nearby home.
Wilson says Mason hit five homes in St. Charles, at least one in west St. Louis County and may have reached into St. Louis City and Jefferson County. He says they were day-time break-ins in residential areas.
He says Mason would take jewelry, small electronic items and other property to sell for drug money, “The information we have is that he has a $3 to 400 a day heroin habit and he’s supplementing that by doing these daytime burglaries and then selling the jewelry and many of the small electronics he gets to local pawn shops and gold buyers in the area.”
So far, Mason is charged with one count of burglary. More charges are expected.
Wilson says they’re questioning a man who helped Mason get to the homes that he couldn’t get to on the scooter.
He says anyone whose home has been burglarized in the last couple of months, should call St. Charles Police.
