CHICAGO, Ill. (IRN) – There are many unanswered question as the re-trial of ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich is set to get underway with jurors filling out detailed questionnaires today and questioning of the jurors in open court set for Thursday.
Among those questions: Will Blagojevich takes the stand and testify? Could there be another lone hold-out juror, like the one in the first trial who saved Blagojevich from being found guilty on all but one guilty count? How will the defense present its side of the story to the jury, now that the colorful father-son attorney duo of Sam Adam and Sam Adam Jr. are no longer representing Blagojevich? These questions will likely be answered as the re-trial plays out over what prosecutors hope is just a six-week period.
Blagojevich, who is accused of scheming to sell an appointment to the U.S. Senate and shaking people down for campaign contributions, was found guilty of lying to the FBI in his first trial. There was a hung jury on the corruption charges.
Since then the prosecution has dropped some racketeering charges in hopes of streamlining the case and preventing any confusion among jurors.
