UNDATED (KMOX) – Looks like St. Louisan Devon Alexander’s quest to bounce back from a controversial loss in a January title fight could come in June at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
The Boxing Tribune’s Paul Magno reports on FoxSports.com that Alexander (21-1, 13 KOs) has inked a deal to fight junior welterweight foe Lucas Matthysse (28-1, 26 KOs) of Argentina on June 25.
Magno calls Alexander a “slick stylist,” and Matthysse a “heavy-handed slugger.” He says both men need a win to stay near the top of the 140 pound weight class rankings.
Matthysse’s only loss came to Zab Judah in November.
Alexander lost to Timothy Bradley in a January fight marred by head-butts.
Neither Don King Productions (Alexander’s promoter) nor Golden Boy Promotions (Matthysse’s promoter) has confirmed the fight date on their websites. The same holds true for the Family Arena, which has a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert booked for June 24 and an Autocross event for June 26, according to its website.
The Paul Magno report indicates the Alexander-Matthysse undercard could feature IBF junior middleweight champ Cornelius Bundrage taking on Sechew Powell.
