FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOX)- Ferguson Christian Church members say a ministry that began in January 1949 won’t end with the sanctuary’s roof being ripped off during last Friday night’s tornado outbreak.

Pastor Stacy Garner and his congregation gathered at St. Louis Christian College for an Easter Sunday service. They have been invited by officials to use space at the college for worshipping while rebuilding their church.

Garner says he and about thirty others were watching the movie “The Passion of the Christ” on Friday night, when they got a phone call warning them to head to the church basement immediately. Just moments after all made it downstairs and the power went out, a tornado slammed the church and blew its roof off.

Garner says prayers are welcome for his church congregation as it rebounds, and they are accepting monetary donations through a secure link on the church website.

People wanting to see photos of the storm-damaged sanctuary or to make a donation to the congregation to help it get back on its feet, should visit www.fergusonchristianchurch.org  .
