CHICAGO (AP) __ Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says he agrees that information about gun owners statewide should be confidential. Quinn said Friday he agreed with his State Police Department, which refused to release the names of 1.3 million Firearm Owners
Identification cardholders.
He says he will review the legislation and “act accordingly.” The Associated Press had sought the records under the Freedom of Information Act.
The Senate voted 42-1 to prohibit releasing the names after Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office ruled in March that current law dictates that the information be public.
The legislation now goes to Quinn for action after House approval in March in a 98-12 vote.
