There is no denying that the comedy chemistry among Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha and Ken Jeong is formidable. Their adventures in Las Vegas in the first “Hangover” movie were funny and the kind of partying fantasy every guy would love to have.
In “Hangover 2,” Helms’ character is marrying a beautiful Asian girl whose well-to-do family is holding the wedding in Thailand. Other than that, you’re pretty much watching the first film again.
In addition to the new geography, there are only a few minor differences, including a lot more sex (some of it kinky), Helm’s character getting a tattoo and an annoying monkey. The two fine actors Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Tambor are wasted in parts that are almost throwaway roles. Mike Tyson is seen at the end trying to rap. It’s sad.
So, if you liked the first movie, you’ll enjoy the second one…only not quite as much.
It’s time for Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug to have a different kind of adventure.
