ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Grand Center is a popular destination, but now a committee of community leaders hopes to come up with a master plan to make it even more so.
Grand Center President and C.E.O. Vince Schoemehl is one of thirty committee members appointed by Mayor Francis Slay. Schoemehl says the plan will likely include more buildings and infrastructure changes but it will also address the way current institutions interact.
Grand Center is home to the Fox Theatre, Powell Hall and more than 30 arts organizations along with restaurants, clubs and residential units.
“Now that we have 1.5 million people per year coming into the district, how do we create a common vision that really links everyone together” Schoemehl asked.
“We are thinking beyond physical development and also thinking in terms of how the institutions in Grand Center better connect with one another, creating a sense of community” Schoemehl told KMOX.
Award winning architect Donald Stastny has been hired to lead the project.
Public forums are also planned. The first public forum is set for 5:30 p.m. on June 23rd at Powell Hall.
The public is invited to review the planning process and offer input.
