COLLINSVILLE, ILL –(KMOX)–While the fate of Rod Blagojevich is now in the hands of a jury, his old college roommate — Jay Hoffman of Collinsville — was asked whether he thinks the evidence points to guilt.
“That’s not for me to decide,” said the former State Representative, “I can tell you this. I have not talked to him for over three years. I voted to impeach him. That was not an easy thing to do. I think my actions speak for themselves.”
During both trials jurors heard FBI tape recordings of Blagojevich saying, ”I’ve got this thing and it’s [expletive] golden’’ and “I’m just not giving it up for … nothing.’’
Hoffman was asked if that remark sounded like Blagojevich was planning to sell the vacant Senate seat.
“It sounds like to me that’s the way the former governor talked,” Hoffman said.
Hoffman spoke with KMOX at a news conference he called to complain about funding problems with the Highway 159 reconstruction project. The former Chairman of the House Transportation Committee says it appears the $16 million that he helped allocate to finish the project when he left office in January has been “spent elsewhere” in the state.
Hoffman says he’s considering a run for the House again, but with redistricting in flux, hasn’t decided which district to pursue.
