ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – This weekend, you can save yourself from a major traffic jam by avoiding the Poplar Street Bridge.
MODOT will completely close westbound traffic from the Missouri side of the bridge to 21st Street.
Traffic Engineer Michelle Voegele says crews will shut-down the interstate at eight a-m Saturday morning, and it will remain closed until Sunday at Noon.
“During the I-64 closure we urge you to avoid the Poplar Street Bridge because there will be traffic back-ups into Illinois,” Voegele tells KMOX News. “The best routes for motorists to get into downtown will be the I-255/I-270 loop, the MLK Bridge, Eads Bridge, and McKinley Bridge.”
Also, she says only one lane will be open on eastbound 64/40 between 8th and 20th Streets from eight am Saturday until noon on Sunday.
The closure is for earthquake retro-fitting.
