Carjacking Killer Gets 40 Years

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) __ A judge in southwestern Illinois has ordered a St. Louis man to spend four decades in prison for killing another man during a carjacking.

St. Clair County Chief Judge John Baricevic sentenced 21-year-old Lason Elliot on Monday, two months after Elliot was convicted of first-degree murder.

Authorities say Elliot shot 23-year-old Martin Lampe of Maplewood, Mo., twice in March 2010 outside a Sauget convenience store, then drove away in the car Lampe had been driving. The car was found the next day.

Under Illinois law, Elliot must serve the 40-year sentence without the possibility of parole.
