National Telemarketer Admits Timeshare Fraud

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOX) – Prosecutors say dozens of Southern Illinois residents were taken in by a Florida-based telemarketer who’s charged in a 30-million-dollar, nationwide scam.

The US Attorney says Jennifer Kirk has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and fraud charges.

Prosecutors say Kirk hired telemarketers to place cold calls to timeshare owners.  In the scam, the owners would be told the company had buyers for their property, and solicited advance fees.

A nationwide investigation revealed Kirk’s firm collected fees from more than 20-thousand victims, but sold only a token number of timeshares.

When sentenced, Kirk faces up to 25-years in prison for the Southern Illinois charges.
