ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX)-A volunteer at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis County, is accused of stealing six Civil War-era coins that were on loan to the museum.

St. Louis County Police confirm they arrested and booked a 63-year-old Brentwood man Friday. He has been released pending the filing of charges.

The silver dollar and five gold coins dating from between 1849 and 1862 were discovered missing on June 12th.

They were returned anonymously in early July.

The coins valued at nearly $19,000, were part of a traveling exhibit commemorating the Civil War’s 150th anniversary.
