Metro-East Loses 1300 Jobs in Year’s Time

Brad Choat

CHICAGO (KMOX) – Some good, some not-so-good economic news in the Metro-East…

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the region’s June unemployment rate dropped 1.4 percent from the previous June— falling to a level of 8.5 percent.

But, the number of non-farming jobs in the Metro-East is down 1,300 in a year’s time— to a count of 234,000.

That’s second only to the Champaign-Urbana metro area in job losses during that span. It lost 3,400.
