EAST ST. LOUIS Il. (KMOX)- A federal jury has found a Dupo man guilty of kidnapping and torturing a young woman and threatening to hurt her until her family paid a ransom.

During the three-day trial the jury heard evidence that 30-year-old Thomas Cureton kidnapped his 18-year-old victim and took her to Washington Park.

There police say he bound and beat her, placed a gun to her head and threatened to disfigure her with a knife.

The victim’s grandfather testified that Cureton called him and told him, “I’m going to keep hurting her until I get my money”.

Cureton was also found guilty of dealing crack cocaine across from Franklin Elementary School in Belleville.

He faces up to life in prison when sentenced in November.
