Another Scare at Scott AFB Post Office

Brian Kelly

SCOTT AFB, Il (KMOX)-The post office on Scott Air Force Base was closed for a time Thursday morning, after one of the three people who reported either respiratory issues or a rash on Wednesday, suffered respiratory issues.

Postal Inspector Dan Taylor says that person was taken to a hospital to be checked out and the post office was re-tested, “We were not able to identify the source but we are confident that if it is still there, it no longer poses a threat.”

Taylor says whatever was there, was in the mailroom where the issues occurred, “We don’t know whether it was something that was already in there or if it was something that came in the mail. The testing didn’t narrow it down for us.”

On Wednesday, the post office was closed and a half-dozen surrounding buildings were evacuated while hazardous materials crew looked for the source of the problem. Along with the three people taken to hospitals, 13 others were decontaminated on the scene.
