E-mails Shed New Light On Prison Escape Controversy

Kevin Killeen

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  New allegations at St. Louis City Hall about who’s to blame for the rash of recent jail escapes.

KMOX has obtained a stack of documents purported to be e-mails sent from suspended Corrections Commissioner Gene Stubblefield to the office of Mayor Francis Slay warning that budget cuts were jeopardizing jail security and possibly putting the public at risk.

The e-mails allege that Public Safety Director Charles Bryson was meddling with the department, conducting sensitive security discussions with staff over Facebook, and failing to fill key positions leading up to the rash of escapes.

KMOX is awaiting reaction from the Slay administration.
