JOPLIN, MO. (KMOX) — A piece of twisted wreckage left behind by the powerful tornado that leveled much of Joplin back in May is being transformed into a memorial.
Sculptors with the Christian art ministry known as “Set Apart” are shaping the piece that will be unveiled in November.
It will be made from wreckage of the Salvation Army’s demolished thrift store in Joplin, and will depict the sun’s rays shining down on the Joplin skyline.
It will also contain the city’s motto: “Proud of our Past…Shaping our Future”.
