Isom Takes Action To Stop Escapes From Custody

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom is telling his officers to follow procedures to make sure that suspects remain in custody, after two recent incidents in which handcuffed robbery suspects were able to get away.

The chief’s office is sending to officers a safety bulletin along with a video of handcuffed prisoners escaping from another jurisdiction’s custody.

The escapes happened Monday and Tuesday. One of the suspects died of an apparent cardiac arrest soon after he was recaptured. The other was able to steal a detective’s car, crashed it, then took a woman’s car, before being caught.
