Gas Smell In Franklin and West St. Louis Counties

Brad Choat

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Laclede Gas has issued a written statement regarding a strange smell being encountered Saturday:

“Some of our customers are calling Laclede Gas reporting the smell of gas in West St. Louis County and Franklin County. We’ve determined that the concentrated odor is happening because one of our gas suppliers added too much odorant to the gas. Because gas does not naturally have an odor that’s detectable, odorant needs to be added to make sure that we can smell gas.
Laclede technicians across the area are responding to each call. We have found nothing out of the ordinary, with the exception of the concentrated smell. Rest assured that we will continue to follow up on every call. If you smell the odor of gas, please call us at 314.621.6960.”
