STEELEVILLE, Il (KMOX)-Two men are being treated for serious burns suffered in an early afternoon explosion at a southern Illinois pasta plant.

Steeleville Fire Chief Carlos Barbour says the two were welding a piece of equipment at the Gilster-Mary Lee plant when there was an apparent dust explosion.

Barbour says the flash-type fire caused only minor damage to the building itself.

The victims, whose identities are not being released, have been flown to St. John’s Hospital for treatment.

Company officials say the plant was to resume partial operations later on Thursday.

Steeleville is in Randolph County, about 70 miles southeast of St. Louis.
