St. Louis Firefighters Hit the Streets Installing Smoke Detectors

Maria Keena

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – It’s that time of year again when you will see Saint Louis firefighters going door to door throughout the City, installing spoke detectors.

Captain Dan Sutter says since the program was established in 1984, the frequency of fires has dropped. He adds early detection has made fires smaller and have reduced the number of fatal fires.

The Smoke Detector Blitz starts tomorrow through Sunday….Firefighters expect to install over one-thousand detectors each day.

Since its inception, the Smoke Alarm Program has been funded almost entirely by donations. In addition to the private donations, current funding is coming from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
