Olutosin Oduwole
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Jurors will begin hearing the case of a former Southern Illinois University student who prosecutors say wrote a note threatening a Virginia Tech-like attack.
A jury was seated Tuesday in southwestern Illinois in the case involving 26-year-old Olutosin Oduwole. He’s charged in Madison County with a felony count of attempting to make a terrorist threat.
Prosecutors contend Oduwole wrote a note threatening a “murderous rampage” in July 2007 while he attended SIU in Edwardsville. The note found in his car on campus referred to a gunman’s deadly rampage at Virginia Tech just months earlier.
Oduwole’s attorneys call the note harmless and merely music lyrics.
Police say the note didn’t make any direct reference to targeting SIU’s campus.
Oduwole has pleaded not guilty and is free on bond.
