Cards Snubbed By Obama? No Traditional White House Call Following Game 7 Win

Charlie Brennan, Brett Blume

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  Was President Barack Obama too busy watching the “Operation Repo” marathon or something else last Friday night?

When KMOX host Charlie Brennan asked now-retired St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa how the traditional call of congratulations from the White House went, La Russa suddenly realized that…it never happened.

“That’s a good point, I hadn’t really even thought about that,” replied a surprised-sounding La Russa, who can be forgiven for having a few other things on his mind over the past week.  “As we were getting into the World Series we had a call from the White House to make sure they had the correct number for my office.”

But as the wild, champagne-drenched celebration of the team’s 11th World Series title was going on in the locker room, that phone never rang.

“We never did get a call,” La Russa said.

And all this despite the fact that the First Lady, Michelle Obama, was in town for Game 1 of the World Series.

“Very impressive, too.” La Russa recalled of his meeting with the First Lady.

Obama didn’t immediately phone last year’s World Series champions, either. But the San Francisco Giants did hear from him eventually:

And the President also hosted the Giants at the White House this summer, where he congratulated them personally.

Whether or not President Obama picks up the phone, or invites him and his team to Washington, TLR doesn’t seem too worried about the apparent slip in postgame protocol.

He’s packing up his things and getting ready to “head west” for the next phase of his life.

La Russa will vacate his office at Busch Stadium as of Friday.

He’s contemplating his next step, which could be buying a minor league ballclub, writing his memoirs, or simply pursuing one of his passions…reading.

He’s currently checking out “The Affair” by Lee Child.

La Russa also said that if asked, he would come back to manage the National League squad during next summer’s All-Star Game, which he earned by guiding the Cardinals to the NL pennant.

He knows where he stands with the anti liberal pro Americans,
i dont how his poll numbers are in the 40’s

      • GL Lee

They really not. They cannot be. Considering that liberals make up about 20% of voting aged people it’s impossible.

      • Harley2002

40% 0f America are either government union types or welfare types. obummer will ALWAYS have 40% approval rating.

Actually 45% pay no taxes so he is in the negative. That is why the Marxists want to legalize illegal aliens that would put them 50% of people on government assistance. Perfect voting majority.

      • keith wren

This is simple…40% 0f America are either government union types or welfare types. obummer will ALWAYS have 40% approval rating.

    • Nate C

The president’s things are Football and Basketball. I would have been honored if he hadn’t called. Then I would know that he thinks that I am an “enemy” to him.;)

      • Steve .

USA Today says he was at “Diwali Reception” (for Hindu festival of lights) after a “low-key day”.

      • marty2749

He didn’t call the Packers when they won the Super Bowl last year either…such a schmuck….well not until about 6 months later anyhow…

      • teaisstronger

Obama will place the Cardinal team on his Kill List.

    • teaisstronger

Maybe Obama thought the Cardinals are a White Catholic Church team. Cardinals?
The Cardinals better change their name.

    • NooYawkah

I hear that he’s very uncomfortable with an American team claiming to be champions of the whole world.

    • Joe P. Fritzbocker

He couldn’t call because his teleprompter was broken.

  • Ron

The reason is thy are not from Chicago. Why would winners want to see a loser

    • J.Cog

Now that,s just mean . Do you think Chicago fans would say that to Cards fans ?

      • Jim in Houston

I think he was referring to O’Blamer.

  • Fred Williams

Did they really want a call from that az_whole? Sick of that POS!

    • Bill Bret

Hillary was RIght! He cannot even pick up the phone at 3am without first plugging in his telepromter! Everything he touches goes south and that includes “SPEECHES”!

    • RHO

Agreed. He is a goon, a gangster.

[…] President makes a phone call to the World Champions in some form or another, but as Tony LaRussa realized on KMOX, Obama never did […]

  • Aaron

Probably did not get the call because LaRussa and Puhols were Glenn Beck’s 8/28 in Washington DC last year.

    • AD Jones

      Nailed it.

    • freecheese

yo, bro. da reazon he dont like call dem beez cause day dont beez a bassit bow team .

    • lvmaryvis

      Bingo Aaron.

    • TiminPhx

And Obama has shown himself to be a petty individual that way. He’s also against almost every American tradition and his ego is such that he thinks everything is about him.

      • jimonthebeach

Well said, TP. Obama is too petty and too arrogant to think of anyone other than himself. But he’ll make the call when he wants their votes.

      • dfinch

        I believe he’s very vindictive.

    • Biff Tannen

Without question, this man has the correct answer.

    • Alabama Dave

      Ding Ding DIng- Spot on.

  • Roger Judkins

Told you there were no muslims on the Cards…

  • bikermailman

I’m a Rangers fan, and this ticks me off. You guys earned it, and O’Bumbles fell short. Again. Oh, and Aaron, you could be right. He’s just that petty.

    • Dafishman65

Not suprised at all with the blow off. I think the Glenn Beck thing may be spot on.. And hey Texas fans, Card fan here. You guys have a lot to look forward to with a good young team. Awsome series!!! You all will have another shot in the future I’m sure if they can keep some of your young guys around and your manager is a class act. Really enjoyed this series, could of gone either way.

    • oliver klozhoff

And another Rangers fan from FW. Great series and congrats to the Cards. Not a surprising move by the man child president. Ever see him throw out a first pitch?

    • Hill Billy

Rangers Fan here too. I’m with you! But not surprised at any low class behavior from Obama!
BTW, congratulations Cardinals! You have an awesome line up! And good luck with Pujols.

    • texsis44

Rangers fan in West Texas. However, I want to congratulate the Cards on a great job! Sorry the (not our) Prez broke yet another American tradition–the congratulatory call! Best wishes!

  • Ted

La Russa “can be forgiven for having a few other things on his mind,” but the President can’t be?

    • Cluster_Chuck

La Russa doesn’t have a staff of hundreds to remind him of such things. DUH.

    • Justin Brewer

I agree Ted, as a life long conservative and Cardinal fan I found that statement to be a little over the top.

    • WHCA dude

I ran the WH switchboard in 1990s, and these calls are managed and set up between the WH staff and the WH Comm Agency switchboard. The Prez just says some time during one of his scheduling briefs that yes he would like to call the winner. So he didn’t have the ability for it NOT to come to his attention. He made a conscious decision or his staff as many have said is inept!

      • jimonthebeach

I think this was a conscious snub because he has no interest in the people of Missouri and now they’ll have no interest in him.

    • Michael Brittain

All you have to do is remember that William DeWitt jr served on the Foreign Relations Advisory Board under GWB and his spouse served on the National Council of the Arts under the same administration.

He didn’t forget, just realized that they wouldn’t vote for him for give a hefty campaign contribution.

  • jASON

Someone should tell Obama that the Cardinals are from St. Louis, MO….NOT TEXAS!

    • the Spottedstone

It’s tough, you know, trying to remember the names of all 57 states.

  • Richard

Missouri is “fly-over country” for Obama and his ilk. We won’t see him until he wants our votes again.

    • Jim in Houston

      Again? You gotta be kidding.

  • hoser

Could be because Missouri has the “BEST” imigration Laws in the country. Here are my two favorites: In Missouri , illegal immigrants do NOT have access to taxpayer benefits such as food stamps or health care through Missouri Health NET. and In 2009, a measure was passed that ensures Missouri ‘s public institutions of higher education do NOT award financial aid to individuals who are illegally in the United States .

Missouri’s laws might be the “Best,” but they are not enforced. Go to St Charles and several parts of the city, and you will find plenty.

    • Vicky Bevis

Thanks hoser. I just got the Missouri Immigration Laws revision on a forward & of course, cked. snopes. Nothing, but then again, I notice they miss a lot these days & of course, it has nothing to do with who’s in the White House!

Anyway, play nice boys! B.O. is hardly home enough to take time to call a congrads. to ANYONE. He must have the mother-of-all-jet lags.

    • PeteM

      Wish California was the same!

    • krp

Nor do they have access anywhere in the country, as the Welfare Reform Act of 1996 barred them from that on the Federal Level.

Whatever state level “benefits” may exist are not controlled by the Federal Law.

  • nobamamama2012

You’re right POTUS POS can’t do anything right. He’s proven that repeatedly.

    • noname

Straw man. SHA didn’t say the president can’t do anything wrong. SHA said he can’t do anything right according to the right. If he had made the call, you would be complaining about him having better things to do. Since he didn’t call, you have to complain about that.

In my opinion, he has better things to do, and shouldn’t be bothered with silly things like this.

  • Jerry

St Louis is in mid-America; fly over country. Obama could care less.

  • Ralph

Obama has no class; he is a petty, bitter thug. Way to go St. Louis! Congratulations! Next summer you can tell him you are to busy to go to the White House!!!

    • Biff Tannen

      True dat

  • Travis Busbar

I heard Obama tried to call but no one would pick up the phone. Go figure.

    • Jim in Houston

If I saw his name on my caller ID I would let the phone keep on ringing too.

  • lovetron

    It’s the previous administration’s fault.

    • eLaureen

To HELL with the fraud “resident” obama!
KICK “zero!”, “moooch” and the pooch to the curb!

      woops 2012!!!

    • JulianusRex

What do you have against the pooch? It’s not his fault.

    • christine

It’s understandable…2102 is the year we finally recover from the last three.

  • Joe "The Dolt" Byden

The jerk has no class. He proves it over and over and over and over …

  • Anger White Man

If it would have been a soccer game from Iraq he would have been there first hand. What a major jerk but when they move their goes the neighborhood!

  • Matt Power

Well, one of Obama’s favorite players on the Oakland White Sox was Yogi Berra. So there’s that…

    • krp

Yogi was born in Saint Louis.

    • Biff Tannen

He has many fond childhood memories of his days at Cominsky Field

      • Lorita Miller

His Childhood for the first 10 years were spent in foreign countries. Obama has no
genuine attachment for this country whatever!

  • NoWaysTarred

…Maybe the teleprompter broke down again?

  • abbey

The Cardinals are snubbed? How about Jesus Christ? Now Obama, the goon, is REALLY snubbing him……and I think someday he just might regret it.

  • Sorely Frickey

    >He’s currently checking out “The Affair” by Lee Child.

I knew there was some Jack Reacher in Tony!

  • Al Phresceaux

Just another one of those things Americans understand that he does not.
