CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) – Shelby Dasher was charged Wednesday with killing her 13-month-old son, Tyler.
St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced that Dasher was charged with second degree murder in Tuesday morning’s death. McCulloch says investigators have determined that Tyler died of “blunt force trauma.” He says Shelby, 20, admitted repeatedly striking Tyler in the head and body because, “He was not cooperating. The baby was crying. The baby wouldn’t lay down, wouldn’t go back to sleep.”
Shelby Dasher is being held on $500,000 cash bond. The case will go before a grand jury in the next six to eight weeks, as is routine for murder cases.
McCulloch says there appears to be no one else involved in the killing. He says he can’t say if Shelby was on drugs at the time, but he says “she was out for at least some period of time. The evening, the night, the early morning hours before the baby was killed.”
Exactly how late, he couldn’t say.
He says as far as he knows, after Tyler was dead, Shelby carried the baby to the area near the River Des Peres where his body was found.
Still unanswered are questions about where the family’s live-in grandmother was at the time of the killing. She reportedly left for work at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. McCulloch says there were no previous signs of abuse.
There are no signs that anybody else was involved with the murder.
