ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) -– Forward Chris Stewart has been given a suspension by the NHL for hitting Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall from behind into the boards in the first period of the Blues 2-1 win on Tuesday night. Brendan Shanahan, the NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety, announced on Wednesday that Stewart will sit for the next 3 games.

“We respect the decision by Brendan and the National Hockey League as they continue to enforce the safety of all players during our games,” said GM Doug Armstrong.

The Blues will play Thursday night at Scottrade Center against the Florida Panthers at 7:00 pm.
