Sports Open Line: Brian Elliot, Baseball, Rams, & Illini
The Blues’ Brian Elliott earned the NHL’s 3rd Star of the Week after posting a 3-0-0 record, 0.98 goals against average, .963 save percentage and one shutout. Acquired as an unrestricted free agent in June, the former goalie for the Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche has 10 wins over 12 games played with the Blues, plus currently ranks at the top of the NHL in Sv% and GAA. He is the first NHL goalie in more than 70 years to allow two goals or fewer in each of his first 11 starts of a season. Hockey Hall of Famer Frank Brimsek of the Boston Bruins began the 1938-39 season with a streak of 12 such starts. Elliot joins Kevin Wheeler to discuss his experience with the Blues.
Baseball Insider Seth Everett of CBS-Philadelphia (WIP, WPHT, & KYW) & FOX Sports Radio joins Kevin to discuss Albert Pujols and MLB’s future alignment. Plus, since Seth is a graduate of Syracuse University, they also discuss the troubling story involving former basketball coach Bernie Fine.
What else is there to say about the 2-9 Rams with 5 games left on the schedule? Find out when Kevin talks with Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly. Also a Mizzou graduate, they discuss the Tigers moving on to the SEC after playing their final Big 12 Conference football game last weekend.
The University of Illinois let go of football coach Ron Zook last Sunday after the team lost six straight after beginning the season 6-0. Joining Kevin is Brian Barnhart, the “Voice of the Illini”, who is in his 10th season with the program. They discuss what and possibly who is next to lead football in Champaign.
