On Sunday January 29th the SAG Awards will be handed out at the SilverScreen Theater in West Hollywood. They were first given out in 1995 and are viewed as perhaps the most prestigious award a performer can receive since it is a situation of actors voting for actors.
On the film side, some prominent nominations this year include George Clooney in “The Descendants,” Meryl Streep in “The Iron Lady” and French Actor Jean Dujardin for the black & white silent film, “The Arist.” Dujardin won best actor at the Cannes film festival for his portrayal of a matinée idol whose career is failing. He is considered a stong contender as best actor at the Oscars.
The SAG awards do not pick a best film, but they do have a category of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The films nominated this year in that category are: “The Artist,” “The Descendants,” “The Help,” “Midnight in Paris” and in somewhat of a surprise nomination, the comedy film “Bridesmaids.”
The award ceremony will be telecast on TNT and TBS. Click on the link below for a complete listing of a nominees.
