Wentzville Standoff Ends, Man Found Dead in Hotel Room

Brian Kelly

WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) —Investigators are trying to determine if the man found dead in a Wentzville motel after a brief shootout with police this morning, died in the gun battle or took his own life.

Captain Kevin Pyatt says the family of 54-year-old Mark Curl of Wentzville asked police to check on him at the Economy Inn, because they were concerned he may be depressed or suicidal, “When the officers knocked on the door and announced their presence, the subject started shooting at the officers through the door.

Pyatt says officers returned fire, then evacuated nearby rooms and waited, “Probably an hour and a half, two-hour time frame there was no contact with the individual until the Sheriff’s Department was able to make entry, breach the door of the hotel room where they finally entered and found the subject deceased.”

No officers were hurt.
